The odds are highly influenced by the African Cup results, when Congo won by five goals, but without Kela, Mvita, and Mumbala, they're a whole other team. Congo are a much younger team, compared to others. Their opponent Tunisia displayed a lot more at this tournament, it's high time they recorded a win. It almost happened against China, but this is a much better chance. Since three of their players went missing, Congo are making a lot of technical mistakes, and Tunisian transition is good enough to be able to take advantage of that. Also, we have to bear in mind the fact Tunisia played their group stage matches here and know the arena well, while this is the first game for Congo here. Details

Kruger has some potential and he didn't get the wild card for no reason, but I think he's still far from Ito. The Japanese player has proved himself at challenger level, but recorded a few ATP wins as well. I think experience is his great advantage, and so is adaptation. This is Kreuger's first senior level match on grass, while Ito has two very good performances. Nottingham quarterfinal and reaching Wimbledon prove he's been doing well on grass. I think he'll keep that up and reach the next round easily. Details

Perhaps the Kazakh's form is not ideal, but he didn't do so poorly in his last tournament at Wimbledon, and he reached the fifth set against Lu. Nedovyesov is not exactly ATP level but he's one of better challenger players. He'll probably focus on tournaments like this since they're the ones that brought him this ranking. He lost his rhythm this season by forcing ATP tournaments but that was expected. He used the ranking, collected the prize money and there's no argument against that. Even though Nedovyesov has some problems, Middelkoop has even more. He's already operated his shoulder and calf and has played only 2 tournaments this season. He got 1 futures win and then got 2 defeats at that level. Even when Matwe is healthy, he's not on the same level as Nedovyesov . However, in this condition with only 2 tournaments in 6 months and a defeat against a player outside Top 600, the Kazakh is the absolute favorite. Just to add, Nedovyesov beat him last year by 6-3 6-0. He has the quality and his problems with different tournament levels are nothing compared to Matwe's. Two operations, only two tournaments and three matches. Too much for us not to bet on Nedovyesov . Details

Slovenia struggled and in the end lost the game against Brazil, despite basically securing the win, while the Hungarian coach had the privilege to rest his key players against the even better France. Hungary were seven goals up by half time, which should be expect today as well. This is round of 16, there's no room for error here and Hungarians will definitely not hold back. And that should be too much for Slovenia. True, they did lost to Hungary by three goals at the last EC, but they managed to score 28 goals, which is 12 goals more than Hungary concede on average here. Slovenia could count on Zulic and Turnsek back then, and right back Mrmolja did well. She is now the only shooter on the Slovenian team, and it didn't take Brazil long to realize that. Hungary have a defense much better than Brazil, and they should be able to deal with Slovenia. Slovenian players are clearly tired, which should result in a few counter attacks more for Hungary, and in turn, a convincing win, just like the one against France. Details

I have to admit I don't understand the odds at the Slovak player. I don't see why Mesaros was given this much trust, especially this year. Even last year, when he was doing his absolute best, he mostly played futures. He had a few good challenger wins, but never in a row. We could see just how good he was this year. He didn't do that well in futures tournaments either - the three semi finals are his best results ever, and the record on challengers is 1-5. He lost at this handicap to any even remotely serious player, even Lustyk, who' not even in Top 600. The only win he recorded was against Fortuna, but he was a great favorite in that match. He's on a three match-losing run currently, he hasn't won a set in the run, and is is not even in Top 200 anymore. Martin is a peculiar player, but slightly better. It's important for him that his game last week wasn't as bad as the results suggest. He destroyed Michon, who's better than Mesaros, and then lost despite winning a set and a break against Fucsovics, who went on to become one of the finalists. He had a bit of a mental breakdown after not winning a match, but the quality he displayed in that match was a level or two higher than Mesaors'. The Croat is a player for futures tournaments, while Martin recorded 40 challenger wins last year. I've seen them both this year quite a few times, and the only thing that can make this unsuccessful is Martin. No one else. Especially not Mesaros. Details

Last week I also had a bet for J.P. Smith that went against him and didn't go through. I saw that this 25-year-old Australian is in good form as he reached the tie-break of the third set against excellent Kudla who went on to win the title. The match was played on hard court, which is his favorite surface, but he's shown us he can handle grass conditions. He has gotten 7 wins on three tournaments, albeit mostly from qualifications, but he certainly has some quality. After a short hard court adventure, he got back to grass without too much trouble as he beat Garanganga without too much trouble. Now he's facing Odesnik who's never liked grass, something that his results this year confirm. He got a favorable draw in the first round here (King) but now he's facing a much more dangerous and motivated opponent that has already beaten him in their only H2H. Details

I think the bookies have completely misinterpreted this situation. Yes, Nadya has three convincing defeats on clay this season but she lost against much better players than Dinu. In addition, she struggled with injuries at the time but her performances in Birmingham and Wimbledon showed she's completely ready. Dinu is an average player who will never be more than that. She has had a long break this season and has played only a few lower-tier ITF tournaments. She lost against players outside Top 500 with some conviction so what can she expect today? I believe Kichenok will be assured on her serve and should have a break chance every time Dinu serves. In addition, Dinu has never faced a player with such strong strokes and I'm sure Kichenok will get a convincing win. This can go for 4.5 game margin for one unit less. Details

Menendez is no typical Spaniard, which means that clay is not his favorite surface. He does best on hard courts where he has had 30 wins in last 2 seasons. This year he has a positive score on all surfaces and he confirmed his good form by reaching the third round of Wimbledon qualifiers where he was stopped by Muller. Last year, he reached the semifinals here and then repeated this on the following two hard court challengers. Gerasimov has played only 1 futures in the past month and he lost against a player with a much worse ranking (Struvay). He's young and has barely broken into Top 250. Last year, he was eliminated in the first round as the lucky loser. He has had only 6 challenger wins on hard court in his career and those were all from weaker tournaments, like in Uzbekistan a month ago. He beat Barrientos in the quarterfinals there, and he's not even in Top 300. Menendez is expected to reach Top 150, he got a good result here and he does best on hard court. The Belarus has not yet made full transition onto this level and the Spaniard should show the difference in quality. Details

Ukraine have so far not shown they are able to put up any resistance against good teams. They beat Sweden in the first round but had not real chance against Serbia and Slovakia. They seem very poor in defense and they depend too much on their center Uro-Nile. She should struggle a lot against the Dutch as their opponents mostly play zone defense and they have excellent Treffers as the center. In addition, the Netherlands have shown much more so far. They beat Italy by 24, Belarus by 2, and Ukraine and Belarus are more or less on a par. After all, Ukraine beat Belarus by 57-55 and then lost 55-64 in prep games. Uraine also lost against Lithuania who are in Division B (58-66 and 60-75) and the Dutch should dominate this affair. This is an important game for the Dutch as they will face Serbia and Slovakia afterwards. Aggressive performance won't suit Ukraine who don't have too many options up front. Details

A very ¨high margin on Japan, probably a result of their 35-24 win at the Asian Championship last season. However, the bookies have probably forgotten that Japan were only up by 1 point at half time and that they are here without their first-choice right-back and first pivot. They have almost no rotations, their first 7 plays for most of the game and fatigue is apparent. Japan drop in the last 10 minutes of almost every game and it's very hard to beat someone in those cases, especially by a double-digit margin. Japan barely got a win by 3 goals against Congo and it seems unreal that they could beat China, who are on a similar level, by a three times higher margin. In addition, China are definitely better used to their style than the African and European teams and that should make this game much tighter. Details

The odds suggest that Monaco can match Delbonis, but this is more a case of reputation and respect. At one point, Monaco hadn't won a match for 6 months. He started winning sporadically but he got 2 consecutive wins on only 1 occasion this year. Once a Top 10 player, now on the verge of dropping out of Top 100. These are the tournaments on which Delbonis has earned his Top 40 status. Out of 15 wins this season, 14 came from clay tournaments of 250 Series. He has won a title and was in the finals of Nice less than two months ago. This tournament has faster conditions and that will suit him better. Monaco has another problem apart from his crisis. He hasn't played since Roland Garros due to injury and now he's facing a pure clay court specialist who plies his trade on tournaments like this. We can talk about Monaco's reputation all we want, but it's no good when he's collected 8 wins this season. I believe Delbonis has prepared well as he's defending the Hamburg finals next week and he's definitely shown much more than his compatriot who has yet to prove that his career is not over. Considering the fact he's on the verge of dropping out of Top 100, that might even happen. The odds on Delbonis should definitely be lower taking everything into consideration. Details
