Indiana - Washington (99:95)

The Pacers have their faith in their own hands

  • Published:

The Nets lost last night to allow the Indianapolis-based team to make their way into the playoffs, provided that they win the two remaining games

Indiana Pacers are the proof of just how much things can change in only one year. They have basically been the only competition to Heat over the past few seasons, at least in the East, but their roster suffered a few heavy blows last summer to forced them to slip into mediocrity. To make things even worse, Indiana have had massive injury-struggles all season long, in spite of which they managed to stay in the playoff race. Every problem will be forgot about if they win the remaining two games, though.

Frank Vogel boys are currently in spot 8 in the East, only one point ahead of the Nets, who have a better head-to-head record, meaning that in order to make it into playoffs, the Pacers need to finish regular season with better overall record.

- The guys have been fighting all season long. They have a great attitude and a desire to win. That will not change because that is just who they are. We want to reach playoffs here and I hope we'll be able to do it - coach Vogel said. His team will conclude regular season in Memphis tomorrow.

The Pacers recorded what was probably their greatest win of the season last Sunday when they brought down Thunder 116-104, despite the fact Westbrook finished with 54 points (21-43). He has been terrorizing them the whole game but the Pacers were in control to some extent to get rewarded for being patient in the final few minutes when they went on a 10-1 run to record the win.

- The most important thing is too be focused on ourselves and give ourselves a chance in each game. We want to make it into playoffs and anything can happen if we manage to do that - Miles said after scoring team-high 30 points (9-for-14, 6-for-8 three pointers) and 10 rebounds.

The Pacers are recording 106.0 points during the five-game winning run, with 43.9% three-point shooting. Paul George contributed since making a comeback to record an average of 10.3 points in 14.5 minutes on the floor in the 4 games.

- It's tough. It's all new to me but I'm making progress each new game - PG13 said.

While the home team still race to reach playoffs, the Wizards are sitting pretty in spot 5, waiting to learn their playoffs first round opponent. The candidates list is down to two names - the Bulls and the Raptors, who are both tough but not invincible opponents.

- We want to keep on getting better, we're not done yet. Everything is different in the playoffs and we'll have to bring our game to the next level if we want to do something - Paul Pierce said.

Despite having quite a few ups and downs recently, the Wizards managed to record 45 regular season wins for the first time since the late 70'. They were at one point on a 10-18 record to go on and win 6 out of the 8 games and thus get a boost of confidence ahead of the playoffs.

- We had many ups and downs. We squandered away many games. I have a feeling we should have finished with at least 50 wins but we're happy with where we are and with where we're going - John Wall said. He's been averaging 17.6 points and 10.0 assists this season.

The Washington-based team won the first two head-to-head meetings with the Pacers this season but lost 103-101 home on March 25th, despite the fact Wall scored 34 points. There is no information about the coach potentially giving some of his players a day off today but it wouldn't be a surprise if Wittman would do just that.
