Mors - Skjern (27:23)

Can Skjern emerge from the crisis?

  • Published:

Last round Mors came to an impressive win, and the team believes it will lift their spirits even higher for today's match Skjern usually creates problems for them, but they are currently playing far below their level

Mors needed a huge change to end their three-game losing streak. Fifteen minutes before the end of the match against Sonderjyske it seemed they would live to see the fourth one. They were losing 19-15, but managed to pull through with a 5-0 run, earning two important points.

- We were under terrible pressure in the offense in those last 15 minutes, but we managed to be slightly better than our opponents. I think this win could be a huge boost before the match with Skjern - coach Paulsen is convinced.

But, we can't say it was only the offense that won. Sonderjyske has a chance to reach a point with one player Mors, but they didn't manage to use it in the best way possible, so both points went to their opponents.

- This was a confirmation that our game system is good, it only didn't give us enough points. Today we played the same as earlier, we were only better point-wise today. I believe we can still show that we're playing good - Mors's best shot (last round with eight goals), Jesper Meinby, is convinced.

Today his team will have a demanding task today because they're hosting Skjern, the Danish representatives in the European cup. They're one of the candidates for the title, although they're not showing it yet. The players they know best are Markussen, Sondergaard and "their" Balling who, after 10 years, went this summer to a more ambitious club.

- We need a good game and we need to belief in ourselves, the way we did last Saturday when we scored a surprising win. Our defense has to be on a high level: we have to build everything else on it in order to reach a positive score - the host's coach is clear.

While Paulsen's team has recuperated from losing in last round, Skjern is still looking for a way out of that. Up until the middle of December they were invincible, and then in only a week they were defeated twice and a single modest point against Odder. They're now fifth on the table; below their expectations.

- We're all aware that we can't change the past and make our previous results better, but we're also aware that it's irritating us and making us nervous. The only thing which could calm us down are two points against Mors - said Skjern's player Mikkelsen.

This is the second time in the last three years that Skjern have to meet this opponent at Christmas time. Before exactly two years ago Mikkelsen's team won with +5, and it's clear that doesn't have to mean anything prior to today's match:

- We're up for a challenging task today, especially if we're going to look back what we did the whole week before the match. Mors have a great, individually strong team, and they can surely stand up to us. They will also have the help of their fans who are excellent; today I expect "hell".

Despite Mikkelsen's warnings, it's a fact that his team is playing very good on that court. In the last five years they've played there six times, and they were defeated only once. In the other five cases they won, as well in the first match of this season on their home court. They celebrated then with +6 and 36 scored goals - Mors's tactics fell apart: defense didn't exist. Tonight a harder match is expected, not as attractive as fans would expect, but interesting score-wise.
