Van Gaal mentored Mourinho, now he trembles before him

ManU are 10 points behind the leading Chelsea and they're not a favorite even at home because Mourinho's team look untouchable at the season beginning

Manchester United didn't manage to get a third win in a row in West Bromwich, which would really reduce the effect of the negative start of the championship. Now, they have three games with opponents being Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

This is where we'll see how much Louis van Gaal can move this United, if he's capable of overcoming their weaknesses, first of all in the back line, prone to rookie mistakes. 

- We had two mistakes even against WBA, and if there weren't any before, we'd have eight points more and be on top. But, it's a question of when we'll get there. I believe in it - Van Gaal points out. He's realistic when he says Chelsea and Manchester City are the main candidates for the title right now. 

- I think Chelsea and ManCity are on a different level, and we have to see if we can defeat them. We base our game on the offense, but also the way the forwards are defending themselves. You could see that with the first goal against WBA when they didn't do what they were required - van Gaal admits. Perhaps their biggest handicap is that Wayne Rooney has to finish his third game of suspension today, and will be out. The coach also mentioned that Van Persie is still far from the form he had on WC in Brazil. 

- I've always been seen as controversial, but I don't listen to the criticisms because I know I can't change that. For me, the most important thing is that the players have trust in my work methods because I trust them, and we come to this derby with faith that we can defeat Chelsea, even though they're the leader and the best team in the league at the moment - he concluded.

Di Mario is questionable, and Fellaini will probably start instead, while the left back Rojo could show as the center back next to Jones. 

Not even the most optimistic people in the club probably didn't expect Chelsea to be 10 points ahead of Manchester United after only eight rounds, and since Manchester City made a mistake yesterday, Chelsea come to the Old Trafford relaxed, and will try to continue the great series.

They solved going to the Champions League on Tuesday by defeating Maribor 6-0, and the only thing that can worry Mourinho now is Diego Costa's injury. He missed the last two matches. Mourinho claims he's not likely to play today, either, but he's been known to play hide-and-seek like that this season already, so we'll see what happens.

What's definite is Remy's injury, so Didier Drogba is likely to play the center forward. The suspended Azpilicueta will be substituted by Filipe Luis as the left back, he played against Maribor, too. 

- I have great respect for van Gaal because I was his assistant in Barcelona, he was my mentor, but no need to talk about him much because this is a match between Manchester United and Chelsea, we're opponents who want to defeat each other - Mourinho pointed out. He denies that his team will play closed off and try to get one point, which would suit them just nice in a situation like this one. 

- Sometimes games go on a course where you practically feel a tie would be a good result. However, we go for a win in every game, and don't accept the theory, "give us a point, that's enough." We want to fight for three points today - Mourinho was clear. 

- I like to play big games, I like to play against the best teams and I like to play on tough stadiums like the Old Trafford. The more difficult the game, the more risk that you won't win, but I can barely wait for this game to start and for my players to show their strength - Mourinho concluded. Chelsea haven't been defeated in the last six matches against United, three of those were in the championship, two in the FA Cup, and one in the League Cup. The last two games on the Old Trafford ended 0-0 and 1-0 for Chelsea.
