Cilic has faith but Stan is now especially dangerous

Wawrinka won 11 out of 13 meetings with Cilic. The Croatian has faith based on his form and a few close meetings lately. However, Stan is on an 8-match winning run and has regularly played his top game in the second Grand Slam week over the past few years

For the first time ever, Cilic is in Roland Garros QFs. Anderson could get a set against him either. When Cilic was a set and a double break ahead, his opponent retired with a leg injury.

- I'm sorry he couldn't go on. He's had some injury struggles and he would not just give up like that. On the other hand, I did very well. I felt great and played another short match. I'm not tired and I'm bursting with confidence.

Marin has not dropped a set in the matches he won on clay court this season but we need to see how he will do when he's not the favorite. He's had some close matches with Wawrinka but he won only 2 out of 13:

- Stan's been doing great the past few years here. I do have a bad record with him but there have been some tough matches lately. I believe in myself. My game gives me a chance for sure. 

Wawrinka

The Swiss is on an 8-match winning run and in great form. He's especially dangerous in Grand Slam second week. Even though he played 6 long sets in Paris this season, he won all of them and that says it all about his mental power. 

Monfils had a break in the first two sets but he won neither. Wawrinka saved 11 out of 13 break points and used 5 out of 7 of his.

- First two sets were close. It was very windy, the crowd cheered for him. Tough conditions but I found a way. I'm very happy with my game in key moments.

The initial back problems aren't serious, as he says. As for his game here, he has semis and a title in the last two seasons. Over the last two season, his Grand Slam record is 25-4. He lost to Federer, Del Porto, Murray and Raonic. Only that last defeat is an exception which gives Cilic a chance here. However, beating Wawrinka in Grand Slam second week is very hard, much harder than in best-of-three matches or early in the tournament.
